Enchanted by the ever-so-popular A-frame cottage style, the new owners of this 1950s property aspired to renovate and revitalise the house, bringing it into the 21st century. Located in the Eastern Townships near Montreal, Canada, this dream-worthy structure sits in the middle of a forest and almost touches the water. Inaccessibility during the long winter months contributed greatly to the neglect over the years, essentially exposing the old cabin to years of harsh Canadian winters. But that will now change. The owners specifically sought out local architecture studio, Matière Première Architecture, for a simple, eco-friendly design with a series of areas that promote the juxtaposition with the water. Optimising the available space for best use, the house features a series of flowing and relaxing rooms, providing a close relationship with the lake. The architecture beautifully captures the natural landscape that unfolds beyond the structure. The undisturbed relationship with the outdoors is maintained, exposing the ever-changing cycles and rhythms of the climate.
