When the Kentfield Residence was purchased by its new owners, this 1970s ranch home in Kentfield, USA, was just a dark, dilapidated house. Studio VARA, responsible for the renovation project, gave special importance to natural light, removing the eaves and adornments found throughout the house and painting the ceilings white to reflect the light. The main staircase, originally in the kitchen, which disrupted the flow to the dining room, was relocated, thus enlarging the kitchen. The interior design was driven by the owner’s extensive art collection, leading to the creation of custom furniture and other decorative elements, such as rugs and lighting, that harmoniously combine past and contemporary style.
