What apparently could be a simple train observation tower is, in fact, an innovative project, resulting from a work developed by professors and students at Virginia Tech University. In Radford, Virginia, a project combining state-of-the-art timber and innovative assembly methods has recently been completed. This is the result of a unique approach, where interdisciplinary research from the university has provided support for a low-carbon construction. The city’s industrial past is slowly being erased by innovative projects such as this one, almost 23 sqm by 10 m high. Edward Becker and Kay Edge were the architects behind the creation and who saw laminated wood as the sustainable secret of the New River Train Observation Tower.
