Sky House

100% eco

The Sky House holiday home, in Stoney Lake, Canada, came into being thanks to a project by Julia Jamrozik and Coryn Kempster. The house is made up of two volumes, the one embedded into the other, positioned on a steep topography with stunning views of the lake. The smaller volume is accommodated in the landscape, while the upper volume rests on a concrete support. The latter houses the social areas and opens up towards the lake, while the lower volume is home to the bedrooms. The roof of the smaller volume is transformed into a terrace, which allows for elevated views and a direct connection with the social areas. The project features skylights, designed to allow light to enter. The solar panels have been positioned to face south, so that the house can generate its own energy. A covered walkway protects the main wall, which is made of glass, from the summer sun, while allowing the lower winter sun to warm the black concrete floor. Simple, durable and low maintenance materials are also used, including a reflective metal roof and a thermally treated wood cladding.
