Designed by Xinjiang Wind Architectural Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd, the DongZhuang Museum, located in Tuoli, in the Nanshan municipality, China, sits on a mountainside, with the main façade facing the city. The aim of the project was for the building to be camouflaged into the landscape and, in fact, from a distance, it looks like another of the many white rocks inhabiting the slope. This effect was achieved with cement, sand, varnishes and glass, and also through small windows, which, combined with thick walls, protect the interior from the fierce temperatures. Part of the museum was designed as a guest house with a private art gallery and the other part is open to the public.
