Lia Gonçalves is a jewellery designer. Sílvia Araújo is a designer and
researcher in the fashion field. Together, they have created the ENSAIO
collection, an exclusive range of sustainable jewellery that can be seen at the
Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT), in Lisbon. "The aim is to raise
awareness about the urgent need for climate action and sustainable fashion
through the adoption of more sustainable production concepts and materials,”
the designers explain. The pieces mix recycled silver, obtained through the
reclaiming of used pieces, and bacterial cellulose, a natural, biodegradable
and renewable polymer, which can be produced and optimised in the laboratory
for different applications, from fashion to cosmetics, the food sector and even
medicine.
