Tradition has it that in Japan, during the reign of Emperor Tengi, a man, after contemplating swarms of bats, came up with the project of making fans out of leaves held together by a ribbon. He called them "kuwahori” fans, the Japanese word for "bat”. With the passing of time, they became known as "senzu”, says José Guillot Carratalá, in his book El abanico. The "senzu” we present here, made with slats of smoked oak wood, was designed by Vicent Martínez for Mad Lab, as an important "memory object”, with soul.
