Michelin

 Invests in airless tyres

Changing car tyres because of punctures is a problem that could disappear as early as 2024. Michelin is planning to launch tyres that don’t need air. The Uptis – acronym for Unique Puncture-Proof Tire System – were developed in partnership with General Motors and have passed the test. Instead of air, the tread connects to the wheel through fibreglass-reinforced plastic vanes, flexible enough to adapt to any surface. Puncture-proof and environmentally friendly, they are made from renewable materials and can be produced on 3D printers.
