Its classic and elegant nature, together with the admirable work of renovating the space, made it a worthy winner of the RIBA West London Regional Award 2023. London is its physical home, in Piccadilly, and it was Benedettii Architects which undertook its redevelopment when faced with its already weak and non-functional structure. BAFTA’s headquarters, a centre of excellence for the cinematic arts in film, games and television, is now world-class, with cutting-edge technology, quality services and breath-taking facilities. Considering every square metre was one of the requirements throughout the project, whereby strategically raising the roof structure was one of the solutions found to rationalise the space. This decision allowed for the addition of two cinema theatres, an events room and a youth gallery, as well as the possibility of giving the building more exposure to natural light. By inverting its layout, BAFTA is tailored to its eclectic personality.
