Carpinbelo

The art of carpentry

It is based in the city of Guimarães, but has long since crossed the borders of the municipality and the country. Carpinbelo was founded in 2013, but the know-how behind it comes from long before this date, as its founder, Fernando Oliveira, worked for many years with his father, who also owns a carpenter’s shop. Much of the knowledge he had has been passed on to his life partner, Miria Guimarães, who is now his ‘right-hand man’ when it comes to the company’s management. Both of them are responsible for the success of Carpinbelo, a success that has persisted, despite the time of economic crisis, because it was in difficulty that Fernando and Miria found new opportunities, soaring in distant lands.

Fernando Oliveira worked with his father for many years and it was with him that he learned the art of carpentry. Fate would have it, however, that he would follow a different path, opening his own company in 2013: Carpinbelo. The business thrived and his work, a passionate undertaking for him, began to be recognised, with the word soon spreading because happy customers are his most effective source of publicity and an ongoing incentive to always do more and better. The crisis took hold in Portugal and the company’s market, which was almost only Portuguese, had to be rethought, adapted, diversified. Carpinbelo got to the point of having 90% of its production destined for the foreign market, mainly France, Angola and Luxembourg, among others. Today it still works for France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Angola, Mozambique, Monaco and, soon, for the Territorial Collectivity of Saint-Barthélemy, better known as St. Barts, but, with the Portuguese market expanding, the company’s strategy has changed, with 55% of production now going to the national market.
Carpinbelo does all manner of exterior and interior carpentry work, as well as kitchens and furniture. It works with all kinds of materials, such as lacquered woods, veneer wood with matt or high gloss varnish, and solid woods. As it is a modern company, constantly updating techniques and raw materials, it also works with cutting-edge materials such as Trespa claddings, PVC decking, heat treated woods, while also using furniture complements, such as glass, tops made of Compac Quartz, Silestone, Corian, iron, brushed and polished stainless steel and brass. Its works can be found far and wide, at home and abroad, thus proving the skill, quality and success of Carpinbelo.
It was due to this excellence in design and to the bond of trust that it establishes with all its customers that Carpinbelo was the company recommended to Brazilian businessmen to develop all the carpentry needed for a prestigious store in Oporto, which will be the first in Europe. The brand intends, however, to open other units, in Brazil too, for which Fernando is already ‘summoned’. Over the 300 sqm of the store, the design of which has been developed by architects Denise Teixeira and Sarah Silva, the company has produced counters, desks, shelving, among many other carpentry works that involved the use of various materials, such as iron, lacquered woods and sucupira, a premium wood, typical of Brazil.
With 30 years of experience in the field and with some 32 highly specialised employees under their charge, Miria Guimarães and Fernando Oliveira, by way of continuing the growth of the company, already materialised through the purchase of a larger warehouse, have projects and dreams for the future: to further automate the carpentry workshop, endowing it with better working conditions and increasing the number of employees. And another one, even bolder, but already underway: to create a carpentry school! We certainly hope they achieve this!
