Located in Manhattan, New York, in the bold Olympic Tower, Longchamp’s new flagship store boasts a prismatic, cinematic façade, with layered rows of protruding metal in soft shades of white and champagne, which, although rigid, seem to sway in the wind. Inside the store, besides the luxury items from the French brand, highlights include the use of natural light and the Transchromie Mécanique Aléatoire, a piece by Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez. Through the moiré effect of the artwork, Cruz-Diez is able to create a sense of movement, while also catalysing an immersive visual experience through colour. In a way, this work continues the fluidity and movement that is experienced on the store’s vibrant façade.
