Perched on the bank of the Manzanares River, the new La Maruca de López de Hoyos restaurant creates a nautical club in the heart of Madrid. The project by Spanish studio Zooco, plays with exterior-interior dualism. The interior volumetry is shaped by the use of strips, expressed through multiple facades, curved and friendly, inviting the visitor to walk and observe, as if it were a kind of pilgrimage, through the landscape with traditional images of the Cantabrian city. The materials used in the project are closely linked to its maritime character: nautical teak wood, earthy coloured mineral micro-tiles on the floors of the rooms; polished white cement as a finishing touch to all the interior volumes; teak wooden slats for the vertical elements; and, finally, smooth white ceilings with a very high degree of sound absorption.
