The Cantabrian Maritime Museum (MMC) restaurant is the latest project by the Zooco studio. It is located in Spain, on Calle Severiano Ballesteros in Santander. Part of the Oceanographic Centre designed by Vicente Roig Forner and Ángel Hernández Morales that was built between 1975 and 1978, the building consists of two spaces connected by a canopy with a concrete structure. Inside, there are three floors around a central courtyard covered by a vault of paraboloid membranes. The building underwent a renovation and extension that altered part of the original design. The project gave the museum a new space on the second floor with a restaurant and terrace. This resulted in the volume having a square morphology, thus emphasising the interior. And the remnants of the past are visible inside the restaurant. The geometry is treated as a artistic element and thus framed by triangular false wooden ceilings. On the outside, a glass box strives for maximum transparency, enabling wide-ranging views of the Bay of Santander landscape, as if we were entering into the sea.
