Volvo C40 Recharge

Driving a Volvo has never been so exciting

Volvo, the Swedish car brand, which belongs to the Geely Group, has unveiled the new C40 Recharge, which will be 100% electric only, in an initiative which underscores the fact that the manufacturer is preparing the way for the brand’s total electrification by 2030, the year in which the last combustion vehicle will be produced. If safety has always been its absolute attribute, having won hundreds of awards over the years, this concern remains, but this is now joined by preservation of the planet, as Håkan Samuelsson, CEO of Volvo Cars states: "Sustainability is just as important to us as safety, we have dedicated our business to helping protect people’s lives, whether inside or outside of our cars; we will now show the same dedication by helping to protect the planet.”
With well-defined plans, Volvo Cars is committed to ensuring that all its vehicles will be electric and sold online in the medium term, and plans to phase out all its cars with internal combustion engines, including hybrids. The focus on online sales is in line with its usual intention, customer comfort, which is now joined by transparency and a more comprehensive service package under the name Care by Volvo, where the brand commits to delivering the vehicle to the customer, within a fortnight, with everything included, insurance and maintenance, for a monthly payment and with four months to cancel the contract.

"Sustainability is just as important to us as safety”

When you decide on a Volvo C40 Recharge you will find a crossover, available in seven colours, with seriously advanced lines, 4.43 metres long, with a sloping roof and a coupé-like rear, as is increasingly the case in the premium segment, this is a vehicle equipped with everything that is necessary joined by extras never before imagined in a car. In its interior it boasts luxurious sophistication where harmony and comfort have been elevated to the extreme, offering a driving position that accommodates driver’s preferences, while featuring no animal parts, which represents a new interpretation of luxury, where the backlighting creates a contemporary ambience in the interior. And the exterior pixel lights easily recognise other road users. In the city or zooming down the motorway, the single-pedal driving offers comfortable control, while the fast and fluid acceleration allows the C40 Recharge to deliver a thrilling experience. Propulsion is provided by two electric motors located on the front and rear axles. The battery capacity is 78 kWh, and is able to charge to 80% in just 40 minutes, offering a range of 420 km, WLTP, which will be improved over time through over-the-air software updates.
In terms of response, the C40 Recharge can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 180 km/h. With a few years to go, which will be decisive to perfect all its cars, Volvo Cars aims to become the world leader in the electric segment of online sales. Henrik Green, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the Swedish brand, explains that "the goal is to create attractive products that provoke changes in society, and the C40 Recharge represents the future of Volvo and the direction it wants to take, both in manufacturing and in how to buy it.”

"C40 Recharge represents the future of Volvo”

As far as the infotainment system is concerned this is the best in the market, developed in partnership with Google, it has the Android operating system in the structure, offering the technological giant’s applications and the various integrated services such as Maps, Assistant, and the Play Store. Challenging conventional configurations, Volvo Cars will equip its 100% electrics with Recharge tyres, for year-round use. With a single set you will be able to drive in multiple weather conditions and on various road types, while always maintaining Class A energy certification. Gisela Blomkvist, responsible for the Volvo Cars Sustainability Centre, says that "Recharge tyres are the most fantastic thing to offer to drivers as they don’t have to worry about changing them to deal with a dry or wet road, while also helping to contribute to a cleaner planet with the reduction of CO2 emissions.
In 2030, when all Volvo cars will be 100% electric, the brand will celebrate 103 years, since on April 14, 1927, the first vehicle, equipped with a 4-cylinder engine with 28 hp, reaching 90 kilometres per hour, christened "Jacob”, rolled off the assembly line in the city of Gothenburg. And in 1959, when the three-point seatbelt was introduced, the Swedish brand believes that around one million lives were saved, while the Lambda Probe or EGO Sensor, introduced in Volvos in 1976, reduced carbon emissions by 90% and are now present in all brands worldwide. With the motto "People First”, founders Assar Gabrielsson and Gustav Larson took car safety standards to the highest level, now and in the future this promise is being kept, but this is now joined by respect for the environment and preservation of the planet.
