The rush of day-to-day life was abruptly interrupted, from out of nowhere. Up to then, the normality of modern life led us into routines with work, social networks and individualism ruling our daily lives. We were focused on building a new purpose in life, a society in which the environment and new technologies began to be our main concerns, and where the rest of the time was devoted to travel and our personal well-being.
But suddenly the unthinkable and never-seen-before happened, far removed from any prophecy. A ‘faraway virus’, followed with some curiosity in the first months of the year, brought one country after another to a halt; one continent after another... until finally it stopped the world, stopped ‘our world’.
From one day to the next everything changed. Our daily routines, our social lives and moments of leisure... Our focus: to survive, at the expense of lockdown. And then our priorities collapsed like a house of cards, the uncertainty emphasised a new perspective on life, we went back to our roots, longing for the affections of those that we now began to see and hear remotely. Finally, we began to live as a family morning, noon and night, with no running about, closer and in one place only: our HOUSE.
For each one of us, in our own way, the house became the centre of our universe: our living space, our office, our children's school, our gym, our restaurant and our green space. Suddenly, it all comes down to a limited space that we learn to value, adapt, optimise and take care of. The art of decorating a space has suddenly gained an added importance. We quickly became aware that the way we decorate the house, in which we spend all the hours of our day, influences our well-being and joy. Naturally, the purpose of some spaces also evolved with lockdown. The family’s interaction with the house has become the centre of our priorities. This is now much more than a place of shelter.
In this period of lockdown some have lost a lot, but many have gained a new awareness of priorities. The way we look at our home is different now. The house is part of our life and home to the most precious thing in our life: family. With its CASA range, La Redoute reaffirms the reason for its existence: "To brighten up the life of families”.
