Natural products and craftsmanship: key elements for sustainable interior design projects

When talking about sustainability, people always tend to think of recycling and reusing waste. It feels strange talking about one of the most-recently-used concepts when talking about interior design projects.
However, reality shows us, interior designers, that we can create unique spaces with our planet in mind. We do not talk about reusing other products, which we could. We at Sara Folch Design always use natural materials, bringing sustainability and nature into our lives.
Silk, leather, wood, stones… these materials are some of the examples that we can install in one of our clients’ residences, public spaces, such as hotels and restaurants… or even on boats. The benefit they bring us is the great recycling possibility they offer, as well as the opportunity to work with local craftsmen.Sustainability in interior design is not only making a house use green energy, but also keeping in mind that the place you are designing is energy efficient and uses energy in a smart way.
As designers, we could be using natural materials, and taking advantage of green energy, however, if we are not efficient enough when designing, our efforts would have been in vain. Interior designers have the important job of knowing about the latest sustainability developments, so we can explain them to our clients. We need to be part of the solution.At Sara Folch Design we believe that using local craftsmanship is also a way of being sustainable and helping the Earth recover from our pollution. We steer clear of mass production, creating unique custom-made pieces, and employing artists and experts in their field.
All these efforts together make a timeless interior design project that will be used for many years, while help reduce waste and improve our planet.
